L’auteur
Michel Poivert, né en septembre 1965, est un historien de la photographie et un commissaire d’exposition français. Il a présidé la Société française de photographie pendant quinze ans.
En 2018, il fonde le Collège international de photographie. En 2020, il est promu au grade d’officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Ancien élève de l’École du Louvre, Michel Poivert a soutenu une thèse de doctorat d’histoire de l’art en 1992 à l’université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, dirigée par José Vovelle et portant sur le pictorialisme en France, puis en 2002 une thèse d’habilitation, qui analyse le rapport de la photographie aux avant-gardes durant le XXe siècle.
Depuis 2006, il est professeur dans cette même université.
De 2009 à 2012, il est directeur de l’École d’Histoire de l’art et d’archéologie, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Il est également directeur de l’École doctorale Histoire de l’art, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne de 2013 à 2018.
De 2010 à 2019, il est co-directeur du master recherche Histoire de la photographie École du Louvre, Paris. Il a été membre des comités de rédaction de la Revue de l’art et des Études photographiques. Il est également membre des comités scientifiques de revues telles que Transbordeur, Université de Genève/Université de Lausanne aux édition Macula et la revue Photographica, éditée par la Société française de photographie/Ministère de la Culture.

The author
Michel Poivert, born in September 1965, is a French photography historian and exhibition curator. He was president of the Société française de photographie for fifteen years.
In 2018, he founded the Collège international de photographie. In 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Officier in the French Order of Arts and Letters. A former student of the École du Louvre, Michel Poivert earned a PhD in art history in 1992 at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne under the supervision of José Vovelle, with a dissertation on Pictorialism in France. In 2002, he completed a habilitation thesis analyzing the relationship between photography and the avant-gardes of the 20th century.
Since 2006, he has been a professor at the same university. From 2009 to 2012, he was director of the School of Art History and Archaeology at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. From 2013 to 2018, he served as director of the university’s Doctoral School of Art History.
Between 2010 and 2019, he was co-director of the research master’s program in the history of photography at the École du Louvre in Paris. He has been on the editorial boards of Revue de l’art and Études photographiques, and currently sits on the scientific committees of journals such as Transbordeur (University of Geneva/University of Lausanne, published by Macula) and Photographica (published by the Société française de photographie/Ministry of Culture).
